When Harris County District 36 called for a new water tower, the former water tank, originally built in 1945, was the worse for wear with decades of accumulation of rust and showing signs of leaking. From the ground up, M.A. Engineering took the lead and constructed a 00 foot, 00 gallon water tower for the Cloverleaf neighborhood of Harris County,Texas. This 00 million dollar project was funded through a grant from the -- water board and directed by Wayne H. Murray, District 36 Engineer and President of M.A. Engineering. "We knew we had a daunting task ahead of us to erect the new water tower while maintaining the job site with the daily district duties on capital improvements," Murray said. He was assisted by the Site Project Manager, Scott Murray who provided the breathtaking photos of the construction process by drone photography, an innovative solution to providing not only an ingenious method of relaying of detailed progress shots for the staff on the ground but to give an unique vantage point for checks and balances on safety for the workers both above and below the water tower construction site. "Right now, drone technology is providing a competitive edge to our firm and we feel we have successfully adopted into our list of innovative services, says Murray.

District 36 General Manager, Billy Vasquez said "quote on the water tower projects and how ultimately cool is was." And she mentioned how much fun they had being the point person on artwork for the water tower. Along with the Cloverleaf Community Board members and staff, the district developed over 50 ideas ranging from Breast Cancer Awareness concepts to U.S. Veteran appreciation oriented designs before finally settling an artistic rendition of a water tap and a fire hydrant. Vasquez is quick to point out that the winning concept's purpose of showing an open water tap, filling up the water tower, is to remind the district customers and the public at large to keep water conservation at the top of the list of priorities. And after all, there can be only one (or perhaps two) designs on the final water tower and conserving resources is the ultimate duty of a Municipal Water District!

The custom hand painted artwork was provided by Smith Custom Painting, a company who's talented staff artists were apparently very comfortable working in high places!
